As with other top iRobot models (including the top pick), they use smart mapping technology to create detailed floor plans and avoid home-based obstacles like cords and furniture legs. They also feature carpet boost, a feature which boosts the robot's power when it spots the presence of dirt on the carpet to get it clean quickly.
The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored extremely well in our tests on bare floors and are especially adept in removing dog hair. However, they do have several flaws that prevent them from being our top pick. For one, the Q5's navigation system doesn't have AI-powered obstacle avoidance, so it's prone to getting hung up on socks and shoes and couldn't navigate tight spaces very well in our tests. It also doesn't have a camera that can see around corners.
It's still a good value, especially if your home or office has lots of unfinished floors and you're looking to save money. It's also extremely quiet and works when you're at work or in school. It doesn't have the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming feature that's offered in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. And it's less effective at mopping, relying on disposable wet wipes that don't stay on very well and can't handle dried-on debris. The Q5 does have an auto-emptying dock, however. And, if you need to, you can swap the mopping pad for dry ones in just a few just a few seconds.
2. IRobot Roomba X30
The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact elegant vacuum cleaner that can also mop floors. Its nimble navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it simple to clean and efficient at tackling larger particles like pet hair. It also has a self-emptying bin with powerful suction and support for virtual boundaries. It's the best robot hoover for carpets, though it isn't as efficient as some of its competitors in deep cleaning.
This high-performance vacuum and mop uses sensors to keep away from obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the patterns of your home over time to offer cleaner and more efficient cleaning. You can alter its cleaning schedule and customize zones with the well-designed app. Its battery life is average compared to similar models.
You can instruct the X30 Ultra to remove its mops and extend them when in a room with carpet which prevents cross-contamination. Its flex arm can also be used to reach under furniture with low levels and along baseboards. However, it's not equipped with the same level of washboard performance as our other Editors' Choice picks, the Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo N8 Professional+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.
During testing, X30 Ultra was the quickest robot vacuum/mop that could clean an entire home, with 66 per cent of its battery remaining. It also did an excellent job cleaning a range of rooms and floors with different flooring types, including certain area rug. Its obstacle detection was excellent and it stayed clear of fake dog turds, socks, shoes and bundles of cables.
It's a little more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but offers superior suction and an onboard bin that automatically empty into the base. It also supports voice commands using Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can clean the floor even after it has vacuumed. This is a feature we haven't seen before on other robotic vacuum/mop combinations.
3. Roomba X40 from iRobot
With a sleek circular design that appears like a regular Roomba than the competition's boxes This robot vacuum and mop combo is one of the most attractive looking models in our evaluations. The newest model from iRobot is among the most intelligent, with advanced features including enhanced dirt detection technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads).
It's the only robotic vacuum/mop that has an exemplary 10/10 in our tests thanks to a blend of high-tech sensors that include cameras, a structured lighting system, and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot we tested that can fully autonomously refill and empty its base station, and boasts an its own self-cleaning mop pads.
As with other iRobot models like the X40 is user-friendly, with a simple mobile app interface as well as integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit, and Google Assistant. The only issue is that the X40 still a loud unit. This could be a problem in mornings before work or at night when you're trying to sleep.
It's also quite expensive but not as much as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or Roborock S8 Omni, which are equally powerful and more attractive. This is a dual-purpose vacuum that's very capable however it's going to cost you more and make more noise.
4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the line robot vacuum and mop. It has a number of advanced features that help you forget your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaner like Ecovacs top-of-the-line X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It comes with a multi-function dock that will automatically empty the vacuum's bin, refills the water tank, as well as washes and dry the mop pads.
The smart robot makes use of LIDAR and structured lighting to create floorplans and identify obstacles. It can navigate more efficiently than its premium competitors. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time hazards detection however this was not 100% reliable in our tests and was sometimes confused with obstructions or power cords.

For families with busy schedules, a recharge function and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to pick up where it left off can be very useful.
5. iRobot Roomba RX3
The RX3 is more advanced than its price would suggest. It's a pro at vacuuming, removing 55% of debris in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with a single pad and a reciprocating movement which is cleaner than the majority of the robot mop cleaners that we've tried. It's also highly self-sufficient, with a fully-featured application, and a self emptying, washable base.
The iRobot app is designed to guide you through an exercise in mapping which collects information about your floorplan, as well as any "no go" areas you've marked on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules, set up an area for cleaning or to prioritise your dirtiest rooms to improve performance. The app also gives access to many features, such as seasonal suggestions, custom maps, and advanced settings for your cleaning.
Its shape is more rectangular than most other robot vacuums, which means it can reach corners and underneath furniture better. It also has a powerful 8000 Pascal suction and intelligent combs for pet hair. You can also create a spot-cleaner which will thoroughly clean the area.
cheap robot vacuum RX3 Home Vision HD is a sleeker and cheaper alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It's got a more attractive design, akin to Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are designed like cute eyes. It is excellent at vacuuming, but it's more likely to get caught in low thresholds. It also has a higher noise than other top robot vacuums we've test. It also has a less user-friendly app and a small base station that isn't able to double as a bin for emptying.
